Is Mrs. Fla. Intl
Miami
Beach - Wellington resident Ashley Maguire was crowned Mrs. Florida
International 2008 on Sept. 16 afternoon after two days of pageant
competition.
The Mrs. International Pageant celebrates the
institution of marriage and the accomplishments of married women. The
pageant is the premier competition for married women in the world, giving
Mrs. International a chance to open doors and act as a positive role model
for their families and communities.
Each contestant competes in three portions of the
pageant: Interview Competition, 50 percent of her overall score, Evening
Gown, 25 percent and Fitness Wear 25 percent. Husbands are a direct part
of the show, escorting their wives in the Evening Gown competition, and
the husband crowns his wife titleholder. Each contestant has the
opportunity to select a platform of her choice that she spends the year
promoting. Mrs. Maguire's platform is finding a cure for diabetes, which
goes hand-in-hand with the diabetes fundraiser she and her husband, Joe,
chair in Wellington, FL.
"I wanted to do this because I know this will help
spread awareness about the need to find a cure for diabetes," said
Maguire. "It was a great experience, and I would tell anyone to do it
if they ever had the chance. It brought together a lot of aspects of my
life, and we had a great time doing it.
"Whether or not I won, it was a life changing
experience for me, and I hope that I can help change lives for others,
especially those affected by diabetes."
Maguire will compete next in the Mrs. International
Pageant in Chicago from July 18 to 19. In the meantime, she will travel
around the state and the country, raising awareness for the diabetes
cause.
Mrs. and Mr. Maguire are the chairs of the 2008
"Jungle Safari" event, a fund-raiser for the Diabetes Research
Institute. The event will be held on March 1 at the International Polo
Club Palm Beach, featuring silent and live auctions, dinner, dancing and
exotic jungle surprises.
New Waste Hauler For RPB
Republic Services, Inc and its West Palm Beach
affiliate, Republic Services of Palm Beach, were awarded a five-year
contract for the solid waste and recycling services in the Village of
Royal Palm Beach. The new contract will begin on Oct. 1.
Republic Services, Inc. is a leading provider of solid
waste and recycling services with collection companies, transfer stations,
recycling facilities and landfills throughout the United States. The
national headquarters for Republic Services is located in Fort Lauderdale,
Florida. The Company’s operating units are focused on providing solid
waste services for commercial, industrial, and residential customers.
The majority of the residents of Royal Palm Beach will
not see a change in their service days for garbage, bulk trash and
vegetation services. However, the recycling day for some residents may
change. All residents will be notified of the changes before the start of
the service. While most residents will not see any service day changes,
the time of day of your new service will likely be different. So please
make sure your trash is at the curb by 6:00 AM on your service day.
As part of the new contract, the residents will receive
new carts for bi-weekly garbage pickup. Please leave old carts at the curb
starting September 24th, so that the current hauler, Waste Management can
start retrieving them. If the carts are not picked up on the first
collection day of the week (i.e. Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday), please
place them at the curb on your second collection day (i.e. Thursday,
Friday, or Saturday). During the last two weeks of September residents
will begin to receive new carts delivered to their curb.
Commercial customers should contact Republic Services
directly, for questions regarding their current containerized service;
Republic’s telephone is 561-478-9590.
